SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the practice of optimizing your website and blog so that search engines your web pages will show up in search results. Successful optimization will hopefully allow you to rank #1 for some or all of your chosen keywords. SEO Keywords are words or phrases that indicate the main idea or topic of your web page or blog post. For example the main keyword of this blog post is SEO. It is further optimized by using SEO in the title, tags, and throughout the text of the post. I have also inserted the main image and named the image with the phrase Search Engine Optimization which will also be re-used thoughtfully and only in relevance throughout the post. Bolded, italicized, and underlined text will be used to further enhance the keywords and phrases utilized as well as anchor tags & links.
- First let's start with building a list of great keywords that will help your page get found. Think of words or terminology or phrases that searcher's may type into a search engine like Google or Bing. For assistance you can ask family, friends, neighbors, classmates, professors, etc. for a few search terms. This will allow you to find similarities between the feedback you have been given and pull from them the best ones as well as create a few more. Once you gather your list of words and phrases. Use your browser of Google Adword's like Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool so that you can search without accruing any impressions if you are running ad's yourself. If you use Google Chrome, you can open a New Icognito Window to search under fresh settings. I suggest logging out of your Google account as well. Especially if you aren't searching icognito because the website's that you have plus +1'd have a way of appearing highly for your personal search results.Once you have your window ready to go, type in your search terms to see if and where you pop up and what page descriptions and keywords your competitors are using that are listed in your results. Bookmark these competitors so that you may visit their websites every now and again to check for any new products, services, etc. that you can also benefit from offering but with your own spin on it of course. {Never copy anyone else's text because it is plagiarism, considered to be duplicate content and will cause confusion for search bots which could possible classify some of your content as SPAM. To check the percentage of your duplicate content, use a Spider Tool like on Plagiarisma.NET or Aritcle Checker or Duplichecker and revise until your content is at least 85% to 100% unique. Write down any new keywords or phrases that catch your eye that you can add to your list. Compiling your keyword list in Excel or in a spreadsheet on Google Docs makes it easier to import these words later or to analyze them. - Page Title/Menu: Now that you have your growing list keywords and have taken a few notes from website you admire and some weaknesses from others that you can possibly capitalize on, let's put them to good use. The first thing you want to do is update your metadata. This is found in the SEO settings within your website or blog"s platform. If you do not have that option, you can still succesfully optimize your pages to get found by using all of the other steps in this post, using the Alt Function to name images and by naming your images before you upload them with your new keywords. Let's continue! The title of your each web page or post should be named starting with the most important keyword for that particular page or post. Also, the title of your pages and posts must stay within the SEO guideline's for charachter legnth which is most effective when only 10 to 70 characters long. {Read more about URL Parameters here.} If you have the option to name your menu and pages separately, name your meu with your keyword like SEO or Web Design for example. Then build upon it further with the page title. Ex: SEO Solutions for under $100. This can be changed later. Try not to change your page titles to often though becuase it your page will have to be re-crawled to re-categorize the new page name, the contents, and internal links. Therefore, be sure to name your menu's with the proper keyword{s}.
- Page Description: {70-160 characters}- The description of your page is what shows up in search engines and should read like an advertisement.

Start your descriptions with your main kewyords. As shown above, we have chosen to make our 1st word Affordable since it a word often put ahead of a service or product for frugal shoppers when they search for things to purchase. Your page titles, and descriptions work more efficiently when they all start with the same word or phrase. They should line up nicely. Re-word where appropriate for niche titles and catchier phrases in your page description. Think of what would attract you and make you want to click for more information or even purchase right away. If you have a long-standing promotion, this is a great way to get visitors who are looking to save. So, you add a brief snippet of the awesome deal you have going on which will save them some money while getting a great product or service. - Meta Keywords/phrases: {10 maximum} Your keywords are usually requested to be separated by commas. Use your list and the actual content on the page to come up with additional keywords. [For example: Additional keywords that can be used for this post are: How to check for duplicate content, How long should your meta description be?] These are terms that possible leads may use to find your content.
- Page Headings- Use only one H1 tag for your heading. You can either use a size 30 or greater font size or use the HTML funciton and insert this: <h1>Your title</h1>. This is the heading for your website which can include more than one word and should have all of the main points for your website. *Make sure that all of your keywords are the same for the start of each section of your metadata for optimal results. - Anchor Links: This portion of our how-to is perfect for those of you who are not able to add metadata for each page or post. Using Anchor links within posts are very helpful. Anchors are done in HTMl and this is how an anchor link looks: <a href="your website or blogs's url" target="_blank">Your keyword here</a>. This is how an anchor for this blog post would look DIY Easy On-page SEO. The anchor being the text that is shown and the link to this post anchors the text and the fact that the link also has the words in the title gives it a little extra juice because it show's it's relevance to the anchor text. Just replace the text in the example and add your url to create your own anchor link in HTML. If you are using the same link in the post, for added link juice, try to use different keywords for the anchor text which gives more information about what is to be found at the link provided. This at the same time allows you to add density to the keywords for the page or post you are working on. Use keywords over again without sounding redundant which makes for a boring read and makes it appear as if you cannot find other words to get your point across. Using a thesaurus help this process. These very same techniques are used for this blog since it doesn't give options for SEO for each page other than categorizing and tagging it which is still great. It just takes a few extra steps to further classify and optimize the blog.
- Internal Linking: Link to other pages on your website, blog posts, and off-site sources that search bots will analyze for more data pertaining to your post. For example, say there is another page or post that further explains the data, pricing, or additonal information. Link to the page using the appropriate anchor text. Doing so also increase page views and time on your website. Use less than 100 links to external and internal sources for each page or post. Free tools are offered at Web SEO Analytics. - HTML Meta Descripton: This is another great way for those who are unable to add SEO metadata for each page or post. Go into the HTML function of your post or just add your meta to a HTML widget after preparing it in a program like Notepad on your computer. It is not recommended to use Microsoft word for preparing HTML since you will also pick up some of Microsoft's code with your text in which to don't want since it will add confusion to search crawlers. To open Notepad go to Start>Type in Notepad in the text field that allows you to search. It is usually located directly over the start button when it is clicked.> Open Notepad and type in the following, replacing all text in red with the your metadata: <head> <META NAME="DESCRIPTION" CONTENT="HTML Content writing for your homepage, blog, articles, and web pages. Written in HTML format using anchor tags and links. Submit you keywords that you would like to use for testing, any text and images that you may have and we will do the rest."> <META NAME="ABSTRACT" CONTENT="HTML Content writing for your homepage, blog, articles, and web pages."><META NAME="KEYWORDS" CONTENT="html content writing, seo content writing, homepage content writing"></head>. Add this to the beginning of your document or the head under the HTML function.
The "DESCRIPTION" is: The page description of the content using up to 160 characters.
The"ABSTRACT" are: The short description of your webpage or post up to 70 characters.
The "DESCRIPTION" is: The up to 10 meta keywords that you have chosen
Lastly, if you are able to submit the url to your webmaster account on Google and/or Bing, please do so to speed up the crawling process and add it to the index immediately.
